Company Description
The Edith Wilkins (Street Children) Foundation India is an Irish-registered charity that works hand-in-hand with vulnerable children in the Darjeeling hills of India. Its core mission is to provide safe, residential care and protection for street children, victims of forced child labour, trafficking and abuse, giving them a stable home, love and the chance to reclaim their childhoods.
Through a residential house and outreach programmes the foundation delivers a range of services, including primary and secondary education, healthcare, vocational training, counselling and non-formal learning centres for child labourers. It also runs small social-enterprise projects such as "The Cake Lady", a bakery operated by older girls, and participates in community events and market stalls to raise funds for its work. In addition, the organisation has responded to emergencies, notably delivering food, sanitiser and medical supplies during the COVID-19 crisis in Darjeeling.
Based in Cork, Ireland, with its operational hub in Darjeeling, the foundation relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to sustain its life-changing programmes for more than 200 children currently in care and thousands of others reached through its outreach activities.
