Billy Riordan Memorial Trust Company Limited By Guarantee runs Billy's Malawi Project, a charitable health initiative that delivers primary-care medical services to the remote communities of Chembe and Cape Maclear in central Malawi. Since opening the original Billy Riordan Memorial Clinic in 2004, the Trust has provided the only comprehensive, 24-hour outpatient and inpatient care for a growing population now approaching 22 000, plus a wider hinterland of subsistence-farmers. The clinic treats common but serious conditions such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, asthma, dysentery and malnutrition, and operates a small in-patient unit added in 2007.

The Trust's work is supported by volunteers who join local staff on a weekly rota, and by sustainable infrastructure-including solar power that offsets unreliable national grid supplies. Ongoing projects include the construction of an operating theatre for the maternity ward, funded through donations in euros and sterling. Based in Dingle, County Kerry, the Billy Riordan Memorial Trust coordinates its international efforts from Ireland while its US partner, Billy's Malawi Project USA, extends support across the Atlantic.
