Company Description
Cobh Carillon is the steward of Ireland's largest carillon, a magnificent 49-bell instrument housed in St Colman's Cathedral overlooking Cobh town and Cork Harbour. The carillon, which includes the nation's heaviest bell - St Colman, weighing 3.6 tonnes - is played entirely by mechanical action from a keyboard and pedalboard, offering an authentic, un-assisted musical experience.
The organisation's core activity is the presentation of regular public recitals, held most Sunday afternoons from May to September, and the coordination of guest performances by leading international carillonneurs. These concerts are accessible from several listening points around the cathedral, with live video feeds inside the building for those who wish to watch the instrument being played. In addition, Cobh Carillon promotes the cultural significance of the carillon, having been recognised as part of Ireland's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Guided by Carillonneur Adrian Patrick Gebruers and supported by a dedicated committee, Cobh Carillon serves both locals and visitors, enriching the musical landscape of the south-west of Ireland and preserving a unique heritage for future generations.
