ACHILL HEINRICH BOLL ASSOCIATION COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE

The Achill Heinrich Böll Association Company Limited By Guarantee runs a dedicated writers- and artists-in-residence programme at the historic Heinrich Böll Cottage in Dugort, Achill Island, County Mayo. Each year the association opens a competitive, fully online application window - most recently from 1 August to 30 September 2025 - inviting creators to spend time working in the inspiring coastal setting. From 2026 the cottage will also host specialised Irish-language Gaeltacht residencies, supporting the preservation and development of Ireland's linguistic heritage.

Fundraising lies at the heart of the organisation's work. With the generous support of friends, relatives, local islanders and the late Camille Souter's associates, the association has secured the purchase of the cottage and is now focused on renovating the space to provide a comfortable, creative hub. Ongoing campaigns invite further contributions to ensure the cottage remains a vibrant centre for artistic practice on Achill Island.
