Company Description
The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) is Ireland's largest dedicated equine charity, founded in 1999 and formally established in 2001 to combat the neglect and cruelty suffered by horses and ponies across the country. Based in Woodenbridge, Co Wicklow, the Trust operates a specialist Equine Centre that cares for an average of 65 animals - at times supporting up to 100 rescued horses and ponies - providing the rehabilitation, medical treatment and compassionate handling needed to give each animal a second chance.
IHWT's core services include the rescue and re-homing of severely neglected equines, a fostering programme for those awaiting permanent homes, and a range of community-based educational projects that raise awareness of responsible horse care. To sustain its work, the Trust runs fundraising initiatives such as the IHWT Lotto and online auctions, inviting the public to contribute directly to the welfare of these animals.
Through close collaboration with Gardai, NGOs and government bodies, the Irish Horse Welfare Trust delivers a vital safety net for Ireland's equine population, offering both immediate relief for suffering animals and long-term solutions that benefit owners, riders and the wider community.
