North East Doctor on Call (NEDOC) is a partnership of regional practitioners and the Health Service Executive that delivers urgent, out-of-hours GP care across the north-east. When a surgery closes in the evening, at weekends or on bank holidays, patients can call NEDOC for a same-day appointment - the service operates from 6 pm to 8 am on weekdays and 24 hours at weekends and holidays. It is an appointment-only service, meaning you are spoken to by a qualified GP rather than a walk-in clinic.

Beyond urgent consultations, NEDOC provides targeted information and support for seasonal health concerns, such as managing winter illnesses, and runs specific schemes for mothers and infants and for children under eight who must present a valid medical card. The service also offers a separate line for non-medical enquiries, ensuring that clinical and administrative queries are handled efficiently. By combining local practitioner expertise with HSE coordination, NEDOC offers a reliable safety net for patients needing prompt medical attention outside normal practice hours.
