THE IRISH CHAR CONSERVATION GROUP COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE

The Irish Char Conservation Group Company Limited By Guarantee is a non-profit organisation founded in 2000 by Dr Fran Igoe and Myles Kelly to champion the survival of Ireland's remaining Arctic char populations. Working across the island, the group raises public awareness of the species' precarious status, gathers and disseminates scientific information, and maintains a dedicated data-bank to support research and management.

Key activities include promoting practical conservation measures, forging links with international char-focused bodies, and extending the conversation to other threatened Irish fish such as shad, pollan and distinctive trout races - Ferox, Gillaroo, Sonaghan and Croneen. By championing the Irish spelling "CHAR", the group also seeks to highlight the cultural heritage of these unique species.

Although still operating on volunteer effort, the Irish Char Conservation Group is committed to becoming a registered charity and continues to inspire anglers, scientists and the wider public to protect Ireland's rare freshwater fauna for future generations.
