The Wellie Race Company Limited by Guarantee is the charitable organisation behind the iconic Castlecomer Wellie Race, an annual New Year's-Day run, jog or walk that sees participants tackle a cross-country circuit in traditional Wellington boots. Originating in 1978 as a light-hearted challenge to "run off the Christmas excess", the event has grown into a beloved community fixture in Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny, with all proceeds directed to charitable causes.

The company manages every aspect of the race - from entry and float forms to sponsorship packages - and works closely with local partners such as the Avalon House Hotel. Each year a "race personality" is highlighted; in 2026 the role is filled by chef and food writer Edward Hayden, whose involvement adds a culinary flair to the festivities. By providing downloadable resources, promoting local heritage and fostering a festive, inclusive atmosphere, The Wellie Race Company delivers a unique sporting experience that celebrates tradition, community spirit and charitable giving.
