Company Description
Shannon Foynes Port Company (SFPC) is Ireland's second-largest port operator and the nation's leading bulk-port specialist, exercising statutory authority over a 500 km² marine zone on the Shannon Estuary - a stretch that runs from Kerry through Loop Head to Limerick City. With water depths of up to 32 m and the capacity to handle more than 10 million tonnes of cargo each year, the port provides a cost-effective gateway for bulk commodities, general cargo and multimodal freight, serving domestic, European and global markets.
Beyond traditional cargo handling, SFPC is positioning the Estuary as a European hub for floating offshore wind. As a founding member of the Global Floating Offshore Wind Ports Alliance, the company is collaborating with ports in the UK and France to standardise design, share operational best practice and accelerate the deployment of next-generation offshore wind projects. The port's extensive low-lying land banks - up to 1 200 ha available for development - support large-scale renewable-energy infrastructure, assembly and operations facilities.
SFPC also engages with the wider community, running initiatives such as the bi-annual "COMPASS" film competition for Transition-Year students, and forging strategic trade partnerships - for example, a memorandum of understanding with the Port of Cleveland to streamline trans-Atlantic freight and promote greener supply-chain solutions.
