Company Description
The Lartigue Monorail Restoration Company Limited by Guarantee preserves and operates Ireland’s only surviving commercial passenger‑carrying monorail, offering visitors a rare glimpse of 19th‑century railway ingenuity. Based in the historic town of Listowel, County Kerry, the company runs regular summer services on the restored line, allowing families, tourists and school groups to experience the unique, single‑track system originally devised by French engineer Charles Lartigue in the 1880s.
The attraction combines a fully functional monorail ride with a dedicated museum and gallery that showcase original artefacts, photographs and the fascinating story of how two small south‑west towns became linked by this world‑first railway. Ticket prices are modest – €8 for adults, €4 for children, with free entry for children under three, teachers and school groups – and the service operates daily from 1 pm to 4.30 pm throughout the summer season. Special events, such as the Easter weekend programme, further enrich the visitor experience, making the Lartigue Monorail a distinctive cultural and educational destination for all ages.
