Company Description
The Galway Sheep-Breeders Association Company Limited by Guarantee is a long-standing voluntary organisation, founded in 1923 to champion the breeding and conservation of Ireland's sole native sheep breed - the Galway. With more than 200 dedicated members, the Association provides a hub for breeders who wish to preserve this rare-breed stock for its historical, scientific, cultural and agricultural value.
Members gain access to a range of resources, including a downloadable catalogue of pedigree Galway sheep, an online flock-book for recording pedigrees, and regular updates on breed characteristics, conservation initiatives and upcoming shows. The Association also offers straightforward pathways to join or renew membership once a breeder has acquired pedigree stock, ensuring a supportive community for both new and established flocks.
Supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine and recognised under REPS IV as a rare breed, the Galway Sheep-Breeders Association plays a vital role in safeguarding a unique part of Ireland's agricultural heritage while fostering a vibrant network of passionate breeders.
