Company Description
The Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies at Athens (IIHSA) is a charitable company limited by guarantee that was founded in 1995 and recognised by the Greek Ministry of Culture a year later. Based in Athens, the Institute provides a distinct Irish voice in the study of Greece-from its earliest periods to the present-by coordinating research, teaching and cultural programmes for scholars across Ireland's leading universities.
IIHSA's core activities include developing and supporting archaeological fieldwork, publishing research findings and running a permanent office staffed in Athens. It organises a lively programme of lectures, seminars and study tours, and offers travel bursaries to facilitate Irish scholars' engagement with Greek heritage. Current projects span the Kotroni Archaeological Survey, the Kea Archaeological Research Survey, the Priniatikos Pyrgos excavation and investigations of Cretan sanctuaries and aqueducts.
The Institute is a collaborative venture of Maynooth University, NUI Galway, University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, and it serves as a hub for Irish researchers, students and anyone interested in the shared cultural legacy of Greece and Ireland.
