Company Description
The Irish Steam Preservation Society Company Limited by Guarantee is a volunteer‑run organisation founded in 1964 with a single purpose: to safeguard Ireland’s rich industrial and social heritage by preserving historic steam machinery. Based in the picturesque village of Stradbally, Co. Laois, the Society offers visitors an immersive glimpse of the steam age through a year‑round programme of events, attractions and educational experiences.
Its flagship offering is the National Steam Rally, held each August Bank Holiday weekend, where vintage steam engines, classic cars, live music and family‑friendly entertainment converge. Complementary attractions include the Stradbally Woodland Railway, which lets guests ride the restored line, and the festive Santa Train in December. The Society also provides bespoke group tours for schools, clubs and corporate parties, featuring guided walkthroughs of the engine collection, live demonstrations and fully customisable itineraries. On‑site facilities such as the Coffee Dock ensure a comfortable visit, while a dedicated team of knowledgeable volunteers is on hand to share stories and answer questions, making the steam heritage accessible and enjoyable for all ages.
