Company Description

The Trust for Civil Liberties, Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms Company Limited by Guarantee - better known as the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) - is Ireland's oldest independent human-rights organisation. Non-partisan and 100 % free from government or corporate control, ICCL relies on the generous support of its members to champion a fairer, freer Ireland for everyone, without exception.

ICCL's work spans a wide range of public-interest activities. It produces plain-language "Know Your Rights" guides - including the first ever guide for trans and non-binary people - and runs campaigns that press for laws, courts and policing to respect and uphold human rights. The organisation also monitors protest policing through surveys, offers legal-observer training in partnership with the University of Galway, and maintains an active network of trained volunteers who act as independent witnesses at public demonstrations. Through research, submissions, and high-profile advocacy, ICCL speaks truth to power, even when the issues are difficult or unpopular.

Serving individuals and communities across the Republic, ICCL invites people to join its membership, subscribe to its newsletter, or become a legal observer, ensuring that the voice of civil liberty remains strong and inclusive throughout Ireland.
