The 18-hole course blends the legacy of two Open Champions - the front nine was laid out by Willie Park Jr., while the back nine bears the signature of James Braid.

Today the club operates a target-golf-only format, with greens currently out of play and fairway mats provided as the preferred lie. Players enjoy a straightforward, trolley-free experience, as the course does not accommodate buggies or trolleys. In 2021 Waterford Golf Club proudly hosted the Irish Senior Men's Amateur Close Championship, underscoring its standing within the national golfing community.
