BALLA COMMUNITY RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE

Balla Community Resources Development Company Limited By Guarantee is a community-led organisation dedicated to revitalising the town of Balla and its surrounding rural area. Working in partnership with ACT Architects Ballina and Mayo County Council, the company has secured €5 million of EU Horizon Europe funding for the three-and-a-half-year BLUEPRINT project - the only Irish town selected among five European sites.

The BLUEPRINT programme focuses on turning vacant buildings into mixed-use spaces, creating a lively, pedestrian-friendly town centre, and building an active-mobility network of walking and cycling routes. It also aims to digitally preserve Balla's historic landmarks while improving their energy efficiency, and to develop a "Town Centre First" model that can be replicated for rural regeneration across Ireland. Through co-design workshops, digital simulations and participatory mapping, Balla CRD ensures that residents shape the design and delivery of these sustainable, inclusive upgrades.
