Sexual Health West is a voluntary charity based in Galway City, serving the west of Ireland with a focus on Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. Founded in 1987 as AIDS West, the organisation has grown from a small group of dedicated volunteers into a professional team that provides confidential, high‑quality care and support to anyone affected by HIV, AIDS, other sexually transmitted infections or concerns about their sexual health.

The charity offers a comprehensive suite of services, including free and confidential HIV testing, post‑exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and fully funded antiretroviral treatment for those who test positive. It also runs a free condom and lubricant programme, delivers evidence‑informed education through its WISER youth‑and‑community team, and provides up‑to‑date information on prevention, mother‑to‑baby transmission and living well with HIV. In addition, Sexual Health West supports the publication of “Sex Educated”, a book by former Relationships & Sexuality Educator Grace O’Shea, further extending its commitment to sexual‑health education.
