Company Description
The South of Ireland Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society is a dedicated organisation that promotes and markets the Irish-bred Suffolk flock. Since 1893 the Society has maintained the pedigree Suffolk flock book in Ireland, with the first registered flocks established in Counties Roscommon and Derry. Its flagship event - the South of Ireland Branch Premier Show and Sale at Blessington Mart - brings together commercial farmers, pedigree breeders and international buyers, offering a high-profile platform for the sale of top-quality ram lambs.
The branch's specialist services centre on the presentation, judging and auction of Suffolk sheep, supported by long-standing sponsors such as Lamlac and experienced auctioneers JP and M Doyle. The sale consistently achieves strong results - in 2019, 75 % of ram lambs cleared at an average of €931, with a top price of €3 000 for a Limepark ram. By linking Irish breeders with markets in the UK, mainland Europe and beyond, the Society demonstrates that Suffolk sheep are prized both for their superior finishing qualities and their commercial viability.
