Company Description
Tarbert Bridewell Company Limited by Guarantee runs the historic Courthouse & Jail Museum in Tarbert, County Kerry. Housed in the original 1831 building that served as the county's courthouse and prison for more than a century, the centre offers an immersive glimpse into 19th-century Irish justice. Visitors can explore life-size re-enactments, audio-visual displays and the original jail cells, hearing the stories of hardship, trial and daily life that shaped the region.
In addition to its core heritage offering, Tarbert Bridewell hosts cultural events, most notably the MacGreevy Literary Arts Festival 2025 - a four-day celebration of the poet Thomas MacGreevy, funded by Kerry County Council and the Arts Council of Ireland. The venue also provides a cosy coffee shop, praised for its friendly service, making it a welcoming stop for families, school groups and tourists alike. Admission ranges from €2.50 for children to €5.00 for adults, with family and group rates available.
Conveniently situated on the N69 Limerick-to-Ballybunion route near the Killimer-Tarbert car ferry, the museum welcomes guests Monday to Friday 9.30 am-4.30 pm and weekends 10.00 am-4.00 pm.
