Bothar Company Limited By Guarantee is an Irish international charity that tackles hunger and poverty by giving families the gift of livestock. By providing Irish dairy cows, heifers and other animals, the organisation helps communities build sustainable livelihoods, offering not only the animals themselves but also training and support to improve livestock production.

The charity's model centres on "living gifts" - a dairy cow can generate around 20 litres of milk each day, turning a single animal into a small, self-sufficient business for a household. Through a network of support groups across Ireland, donors can contribute animals, fund transport costs or set up regular monthly giving, which enables long-term planning and unlocks an additional 45 % match on gifts of €250 or more per year.

Since its inception, Bothar has assisted more than 300 000 families in the developing world, delivering tangible, lasting change through livestock-based development.
