Company Description
The Society of African Missions (SMA) Trustees Company Limited by Guarantee is an international Catholic missionary family founded in 1856 by Venerable Bishop Melchior de Marion Brésillac. Drawing on a long-standing tradition of responding to Christ's call to "go out to the whole world", SMA members work primarily among Africans and people of African origin, building up faith communities, church structures, and providing education, health-care, social development and advocacy for justice and care for creation.
In Ireland the Society operates several SMA houses - including St Joseph's SMA Parish on Blackrock Road and the Dromantine Conference centre - from which it coordinates projects such as the Tanga House refuge for albino children in Tanzania, remote schooling initiatives in Zambia, housing programmes for vulnerable families, and the formation of future missionary priests. Support is offered through missionary-association cards, will-legacies, and a calendar of events ranging from summer schools and biodiversity conferences to novenas and homily broadcasts.
Through prayerful partnership and practical action, SMA serves both the spiritual and material needs of communities across Africa while engaging Irish supporters in a shared mission of hope, education and environmental stewardship.
