Company Description
The Cork Historical and Archaeological Society (CHAS) is one of Ireland's longest-standing local-interest organisations, founded in 1891 to promote the study and recording of Cork's rich history and archaeology. Through a vibrant programme of winter lectures, summer outings and an annual Christmas event, the society brings together scholars, enthusiasts and the wider public for engaging talks-often streamed live and made available on-demand for members-plus field trips to sites of historic significance.
A cornerstone of CHAS's work is the *Journal of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society* (JCHAS), published annually since 1892 and distributed free to members. Recent volumes are complemented by a digital archive of back issues, many of which are now openly accessible. The society also operates an online store where members can purchase historic journal volumes and supports the ongoing digitisation project by seeking missing issues from its early years.
Membership, open to individuals, students and families, provides full access to the lecture series, outings, the journal and the online store, fostering a community dedicated to preserving and celebrating Cork's heritage.
