ILCU INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

The ILCU International Development Foundation is a charitable organisation dedicated to fighting poverty and promoting financial inclusion in low‑income communities. By sharing the Irish credit‑union experience, the Foundation provides knowledge, expertise and practical support that enable people in rural and urban areas to access ethical savings and affordable loans. Its work centres on education, capacity‑building and the development of sustainable credit‑union models that empower individuals and families to improve their livelihoods.

Operating in partnership with local credit‑union movements, the Foundation’s programmes are active in Ethiopia, The Gambia and Sierra Leone. It collaborates closely with dedicated local partners to deliver affordable financial services, strengthen community‑based savings groups and create pathways to secure, long‑term economic stability. Funding comes primarily from around 130 Irish credit unions, supplemented by institutional donors, development partners and corporate supporters, reflecting a broad commitment to the credit‑union model as a catalyst for socio‑economic development.
