THE IRISH NAUTICAL TRUST

The Irish Nautical Trust is a Dublin‑based charitable organisation dedicated to safeguarding the city’s maritime future. By combining practical training with community‑focused employment programmes, the Trust equips both newcomers and seasoned seafarers with the safety, technical and environmental skills needed for a thriving career in the maritime sector.

Key services include accredited maritime training that leads to recognised certifications, and targeted employment support for unemployed residents of the Dublin Port area. The Trust also operates two historic vessels – the pioneering Liffey Sweeper, which removes aquatic debris from the River Liffey to protect the Dublin Bay Biosphere, and the Old Liffey ferry, a charter dating back to 1665 that now provides a living link to the city’s nautical heritage while giving trainees hands‑on experience.

Working closely with local social and business partners, the Irish Nautical Trust encourages young people from traditional port communities to embrace maritime opportunities, ensuring that the skills, knowledge and traditions of Ireland’s waterways are passed on to the next generation.
